Flavor Profile

Aromas of coconut, spicy vanilla, lemon custard, apple blossom and mineral. On entry very full and ripe rich fruit flavors with good firm structure and well-balanced acidity. A wine with both focus and intrigue. Great bursts of toast, honey, lemon and spice with hints of butterscotch. A wine that gives great pleasure now, alone or paired with fine cuisine but also will reward those patient few willing to wait a few years before opening.

  • Vineyard Notes

100% from the Napa side of Carneros: 70% Merryvale Stanly Ranch Estate, 30% Hyde Vineyard

  • From The Wine Advocate: "The 1994 Silhouette Chardonnay ...

“…exhibits a light to medium straw color, followed by a ripe, sweet nose of buttery fruit and graceful, smoky oak. Full-bodied, with exceptional concentration and balance, this is a mouthfilling, well-balanced, boldly-styled Chardonnay to drink over the next 2-3 years.”  – Robert Parker, Jr. [90 POINTS]

  • From The Wine Advocate: :The two luxury cuvees...

“… of Merryvale include the barrel-fermented, rich, concentrated 1994 Chardonnay Silhouette. This is the winery’s top Chardonnay, and it is well worth purchasing. It is full-bodied, intense, and honeyed, with gorgeous levels of fruit buttressed by lavish quantities of toasty oak and good acidity”. – Robert Parker, Jr. [92 POINTS]

  • From International Wine Cellar: " Bright but subbed nose...

(The selection here is for wine with intensity and focus; a full-malolactic wine that spends 16 months in new barrels before being bottled without fining or filtration): … hints at lemon, cinnamon and minerals. Big, rich, and spicy in the mouth; offers an almost oily impression of extract. Seems more intensely flavored than the above. Also longer and more pliant. This may eventually surpass the superb ‘93.”  – Stephen Tanzer [90+ POINTS]
