Vineyards

Our founders created the first Profile red blends with fruit sourced from the finest vineyards in the Napa Valley.

One of these early sources was a rocky site perched in the steep hillsides east of St. Helena, high above the fog line, with a mosaic of different soil types and exposures. When our Swiss-born Schlatter family became sole proprietors of the brand in the mid-1990s, Jack Schlatter and his son René acquired this historic hillside site and worked closely with viticulturist David Abreu to replant and redesign the vineyard from the ground up. Beginning in 1997, we planted 25 acres with 85% Cabernet Sauvignon (337, See, Margaux, Spottswoode clones), 10% Petit Verdot (Abreu clone), and 5% Cabernet Franc (clone 324).

In 2004, our family acquired the historic Stanly Ranch property in Carneros, with the goal of producing world-class Chardonnay worthy of joining the Profile Collection. That second estate vineyard now provides the luminous fruit we craft into our Silhouette.

Vineyards

Our meticulous plant-by-plant approach to farming optimizes the varied terroir and rich diversity of growing conditions, which at our St. Helena site include Forward-Kidd and Henneke series soils as well as gravelly and clay loam. We incorporated sustainable organic farming techniques, such as permanent cover crops, integrated pest management, and zero herbicide use, to elevate quality with every vintage and to preserve the natural balance of the land for generations to come. Both our Schlatter Family Estate and Stanly Ranch Estate vineyards are certified as Fish Friendly Farming and Napa Green Land.

With the 30th release of our Profile proprietary red in 2016, our family and our estate vineyards are in their prime. These places and their wines have become our family legacy, nurtured through generations of hard work and an unwavering dedication to quality.
