Flavor Profile
Very dark ruby color, almost inky. Jammy ripe fruit, concentrated, extracted (almost exotic) plums, blackberry and cassis amongst a toasty vanilla oak component that is well integrated and complex. The entry on the palate is powerful and dense. The mid-palate shows richness, breadth and again very ripe concentrated, jammy fruit qualities. The wine finishes big with a high quantity of tannins, but its finish is long and supple.
- Vineyard Notes
Slawson Vineyard, Profile Estate Vineyard, Tilting Rock Vineyard and Caldwell Vineyards
- From Wine Enthusiast: "Saturated opaque blood red.
… Moderately full-bodied. Highly extracted. Quite tannic. Nutmeg, Asian spice, cassis. Exotic, Asian-spiced aromas are intriguing. Solidly extracted, with very tight, grainy tannins. A long-term cellar wine that needs more bottle age to show its best. —Tasting Panel [96 POINTS]
- From The Wine Advocate: "Even better is the 1994 Profile...
… (a blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot, and 10% Cabernet Franc). It possesses an opaque purple color, and seems to hit every sweet spot on the taster’s palate, offering loads of cassis, roasted herbs, toast, and licorice. This multi-layered, rich, concentrated wine also reveals impeccable balance and elegance. There is restraint, power, and concentration – a rare combination in such a big wine. The 1994 is more accessible than the 1995, and thus can be drunk young or cellared for 15-20+ years.” —Robert Parker, Jr. [92 POINTS]
- From Wine Spectator: "The core of currant and black cherry...
… is marked by cedary oak and firm tannins, but it opens up to reveal rich, concentrated plum, currant, mineral, sage and oak. A complex, concentrated style.” —James Laube [91 POINTS]
