Flavor Profile
The level of intensity, color and flavor in the fruit from our Profile Estate Vineyard was truly exceptional. The incredible phenolics in 2013 allowed for deep and long macerations for up to 45 days. Aromas of licorice, blackberry, raspberry and plum are interwoven with dark chocolate and black olives and highlighted by balsamic notes. The rich, round entry is the perfect entrée to this wine of significant depth and length. The weight and concentration are balanced by flavors that are equally deep and elegant with leather notes and savory herbs (thyme) on the finish. The oak is well integrated featuring supple, very fine grain tannins. Decant this wine in its youth, it will reach a nice level of complexity 8-10 years from vintage, and with proper cellaring its depth and very fine tannins will continue to develop over the next 10+ years.
- Vineyard Notes
This 30th vintage of our Profile proprietary red blend continues to showcase the very best fruit from the harvest. Historically comprised from top vineyard sites in our portfolio from throughout the Napa Valley, we now have the luxury of sourcing exclusively from our beautiful hillside Profile Estate Vineyard located east of St. Helena. Picked only at night, sorted in the field and at the winery, the fruit was cold soaked for five days and fermented using native yeasts with daily pump-overs and delestage. Macerated for 30 to 45 days, part of the blend was barrel fermented in whole berries for 30 days. Malolactic fermentation took place in new French oak and the wine was racked every six months during aging. The 2013 Profile was bottled without fining or filtration.
- FROM WINE ENTHUSIAST: "THIS VINTAGE OF THE HEARTY PROPRIETARY BLEND...
… of 83% Cabernet Sauvignon, 12% Petit Verdot and 5% Cabernet Franc highlights the best of harvest. It’s dense with mouth-coating red fruit and a touch of sweetness from oak. As it unwinds, more developed graPhite, black olive and dried herb accents come to life. Enjoy 2023-2030.” —Virginie Boone [93 POINTS, CELLAR SELECTION]
- FROM ROBERTPARKER.COM: "THE 2013 PROPRIETARY RED BLEND...
… Profile, their Bordeaux blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc and usually meant to represent the flagship dry red of the winery, has a dense ruby/purple color, notes of wood char, spice box, blackberry and blueberry, this starts to kick up the level of tannin in this medium to full-bodied, long-term wine. This does require some patience, and 4-5 years is suggested. It should drink nicely for 20 or more years.” —Robert Parker, Jr. [92+ POINTS]
- FROM WINE SPECTATOR: "RAMBUNCTIOUS, DELIVERING SAVORY...
… underbrush-laced earth and blackberry flavors, unfolding to reveal currant, licorice and floral scents. The tannins emerge on the grippy, grainy aftertaste. Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc. Drink now through 2030. 2,500 cases made.” —James Laube [91 POINTS]
